Opening Night at the Reading Symphony Orchestra
Verdi’s Requiem has blown audiences away ever since its premier in 1874. Not only is it one of the most operatic and lyrical of requiems ever written, it is at times almost overwhelmingly powerful. The hairs on the back of your neck will stand up after the Dies Irae!
Stars of Broadway will join the RSO for a high-energy evening of hits from rock- and pop-inspired musicals. Hear your favorite songs from such popular shows as Wicked, Hairspray, The Lion King, Mamma Mia, Rent, Jersey Boys, and Beautiful.
Renowned worldwide as two of the finest composers working today, Joan Tower and Jennifer Higdon have quickly carved out enviable niches in major international concert halls and with great orchestras everywhere. It’s a privilege to hear Tower’s Made in America and Higdon’s Blue Cathedral performed side by side. And with the triumph that is Shostakovich’s thrilling Symphony No. 5, how could you possibly miss this concert?
This pops concert features performers who look and sound just like The Beatles playing classics like “Penny Lane,” “Yesterday,” and “I Am the Walrus,” all with the unique accompaniment of the RSO.
Beethoven’s powerful Eroica Symphony, dedicated to “the memory of a great man” — Napoleon Bonaparte — has always thrilled audiences. Equally thrilling will be American music from the early twentieth century master George Chadwick and the contemporary master, Richard Danielpour, whose dynamic Viola Concerto will introduce Brett Deubner to Reading audiences for the first time.
